Four years ago after writing an article for The Joel Comiskey Group, I received an e-mail from a pastor in India who said he wanted to learn more about cell ministry. This began a great friendship of mutual sharing and encouragement. After communicating with him for about six months myself and a cell member made our first trip to India. God used this trip to give me a heart for India and I fell in love with the people. I saw such passion and hunger for God and a strong base of prayer among the people

From this initial relationship I met other pastors and my vision for “Impact India” began to grow. I began to get my cell groups involved in praying for these pastors and trying to help them in practical ways. God has used our groups to provide Bibles, song books, a sewing machine, computer, a roof on a worship facility and even a vehicle for one of the ministries.

I see huge potential to make a difference in India as we partner with these pastors who serve for the most part without pay or resources. There is a great need for leadership training, cell training, women’s conferences, discipleship training, Encounter retreats etc. One of the pastors I’m working with has access to 60 villages and has the vision to plant new churches in the region but needs support for these pastors who will establish these churches..

I just returned from a month long trip which took me to 6 regions in two Indian states. The team and I had some of the following opportunities:

• Spoke at a gathering of pastors (the fellowship consists of 500 pastors)
• Visited a leper colony (saw how $2000 could put a pump in a well and provided electricity to the homes)
• Participated in 5 open air gatherings of 1000+ people and saw many come to Christ.
• My wife and another woman on the team held a women’s conference and had the opportunity to minister one on one and pray with many women.
• Held a Saturday cell training session
• Went to five new villages with no Christian presence and preached the Gospel.

There are so many amazing stories I could tell but in one case an investigator came to see what was happening at one of the open air meetings. As this Hindu man sat by the stage and watched 1000 people passionately worshipping the Savior he made the comment, “All the hair on my body was standing up and it felt like I was in heaven.”

At another open air gathering ten members of the anti-Christian governmental party were on stage as invited guests. The team and I didn’t know who they were and assumed they were local pastors. We worshipped and preached the Gospel and here is the report I received from the host pastor. “All the elected anti- Christian members who came for the meeting were touched by the Lord and they said, “Preaching and admonishing people in God’s Word is the great way to change the society… even they have given words of encouragement to conduct such meetings in the days to come. This is great news for the Christians in India as God is changing even the enemies hearts.”

Over the past five years, God has used me to lay a strong foundation of friendship and trust with these precious Indian Pastors and now I’m praying for others to partner with me to help make a difference in that nation, a nation of 300 million gods, filled with temples and idol worship. Impacto en la India

Hace cuatro años después de escribir un artículo para El Grupo de Joel Comiskey, recibí un e-mail de un pastor en la India, que dijo que quería aprender más sobre el ministerio celular. Esto comenzó una gran amistad del intercambio mutuo y aliento. Después de comunicarme con él durante unos seis meses, un miembro y yo hicimos nuestro primer viaje a la India. Dios usó este viaje y me dio un corazón para la India y me enamoré de la gente. Vi tanta pasión y hambre de Dios y una fuerte base de oración entre las personas

A partir de esta relación inicial conocí a otros pastores y de mi visión para “Impacto en la India” empezó a crecer. Empecé a tener mis grupos de células que participan en la oración por estos pastores y tratar de ayudarlos de manera práctica. Dios ha usado a nuestros grupos para proveer Biblias, libros de canciones, una máquina de coser, computadoras, un techo en un centro de culto e incluso un vehículo para uno de los ministerios.

Veo un enorme potencial para hacer una diferencia en la India, como nos asociamos con estos pastores que sirven en su mayor parte sin el goce de sueldo o de los recursos. Hay una gran necesidad de capacitación para el liderazgo, la formación de células, las conferencias de mujeres, el discipulado, retiros, etc Encuentro uno de los pastores con los que trabajo que tiene acceso a 60 pueblos y tiene la visión de plantar nuevas iglesias en la región, pero necesita apoyo para estos pastores que se establecen estas iglesias ..

Acabo de regresar de un viaje de un mes que me llevó a 6 regiones en dos estados de la India. El equipo y yo tuvimos algunas de las siguientes oportunidades:

•  Hablamos en una reunión de los pastores (la beca consta de 500 pastores)
• Visitamos una colonia de leprosos (vimos como $ 2000 pudo poner una bomba de agua en un pozo y proporcionar electricidad a los hogares)
• Participamos en 5 reuniones al aire libre de 1000+ personas  y vimos a muchos venir a Cristo.
• Mi esposa y otra mujer en el equipo llevó a cabo una conferencia de mujeres y tuvo la oportunidad de ministrar uno a uno y orar con muchas mujeres.
• Tuvimos una sesión de entrenamiento de células un Sábado
• Fuimos a cinco pueblos nuevos, sin presencia de los cristianos a predicar el Evangelio.

Hay muchas historias asombrosas que podría contar, pero en un caso un investigador llegó a ver lo que estaba ocurriendo en una de las reuniones al aire libre. Como este hombre hindú se sentó junto al estadio y vio 1.000 personas con la pasión de adorar al Salvador, el hizo un comentario: “Todo el pelo de mi cuerpo se me paro  y me sentí como si estuviera en el cielo.”

En otra reunión al aire libre diez miembros del partido gubernamental contra los cristianos estaban en el escenario como invitados. El equipo y yo no sabía quiénes eran y supusimos que eran los pastores locales. Tenemos una misma adoración y predicación del Evangelio y aquí está el informe que he recibido del pastor anfitrión. “Todos los elegidos miembros anticristianos que acudieron a la reunión fueron tocados por el Señor y dijo:” La predicación y amonestación a la gente en la Palabra de Dios es una buena manera de cambiar la sociedad … incluso se han dado palabras de aliento para llevar a cabo reuniones de este tipo en los próximos días. Esta es una gran noticia para los cristianos en la India de como Dios está cambiando, incluso los corazones de los enemigos.

En los últimos cinco años, Dios me ha usado para sentar una base sólida de amistad y confianza con los preciosos pastores de la India y ahora estoy orando para que otros puedan asociarse conmigo para ayudar a hacer una diferencia en esa nación, una nación de 300 millones de dioses, llenas de templos y adoración de ídolos. Our Church Growth Conference is one of the most motivating moments in the year for leaders and supervisors of our church. This is an activity we do once a year and it is aimed at leaders and supervisors. Regular services are suspended for a week and every day at the church, the leaders gather for this conference.

Attending the conference is in itself a privilege reserved only for leaders and supervisors. The content of the conference is solely related to cell ministry. The vision is reaffirmed, principles are reviewed, goals are evaluated, and assistance is provided throughout the conference. The Conference is strongly motivational, and at the end of it, the leaders feel strongly encouraged.

We have been doing this for several years now, and ever since the first year it has been very beneficial for everyone involved. It’s easy to overlook problems and challenges the leaders are facing. The Conference provides an opportunity to standardize the knowledge and training.

Last year we completed our conference with a meeting in the city’s stadium where only the leaders and supervisors attended. We were celebrating our 25 years of cell work. Medals were handed out to leaders who had persevered in cell ministry for 25 years! It was a great moment that caused a lot of motivation and fellowship.

Motivando a los líderes.

Uno de los momentos más motivadores en el año para líderes y supervisores de nuestra iglesia es cuando realizamos nuestra Conferencia sobre Crecimiento de la Iglesia. Esta es una actividad que realizamos una vez por año y está dirigida a líderes y supervisores. Durante una semana se suspenden los servicios regulares y todos los días se reciben en la iglesia solamente a los líderes de células.

El asistir a la Conferencia es de por sí, un privilegio reservado solamente para los líderes y supervisores. Los contenidos que se desarrollan son todos relacionados con el trabajo celular. Se retoman temas, se reafirma la visión, se repasan principios, se reafirman metas, se da instrucción y ayuda. La Conferencia tiene un carácter motivacional y al final de la misma los líderes se sienten fuertemente animados.

Llevamos varios años realizando esta Conferencia y desde su primer año fue muy beneficiosa y recibida con gran interés. Muchas cosas que se dan por sentadas, sucede que a veces los líderes no las manejan. La Conferencia otorga la oportunidad para uniformar el conocimiento y la capacitación.

El año pasado culminamos nuestra Conferencia con una reunión en el estadio de la ciudad adonde solamente asistieron líderes y supervisores. Nos encontrábamos celebrando nuestros 25 años de trabajo celular. Se entregaron medallas a los líderes que han perseverado en el trabajo durante todo ese tiempo. Fue un gran momento que provocó mucha motivación y comunión.

I’m assuming you are the vision carrier of cells or small groups for your church. If you are like most leaders, your confidence level about your vision goes through ups and downs. When your confidence is up, it’s easy to proclaim the vision. But when it’s down, how do you respond? What do you do when your vision for cell group life is in crisis? Let me suggest a few things:

• Get away for some extended time with God. I encourage you to build this into your normal monthly schedule. Don’t wait until the crisis comes to start doing this. Go back to the Bible and see what God is saying to you. God’s direction might surprise you.
• Read a good book on the vision for cell groups. Re-read an old book that first inspired you. Find a new one that might reveal something new that God wants to show you. Don’t just read it. Pray through it.
• Find good blogs to follow and read regularly. Of course this is exactly what you are doing now. Others to check out include bloggers like:Ralph W. Neighbour Jr.: http://neighbourgrams.blogspot.com/

• Go visit another church that is doing groups well. Joel has a list of many in North America in his book The Church that Multiplies. If you can travel internationally go visit Elim in El Salvador or Shepherd Community in Honk Kong. Attending a conference on cells or small groups is another version of this.
• Seek out a ministry coach, someone who can talk with you on a monthly basis, pray for you regularly, and encourage your vision. There are many of us who serve the church this way.

Here’s the most challenging point: Don’t give up on the vision. Over the last fifteen years I cannot keep up with the huge number of churches that have vision hopped on to and off of the cell group/small group vision. (Here’s a link to a blog post about the tendency in the church to jump on and off fads.) This is not a vision to do just because it works—although it does. It’s a vision to do because God calls you to it. Hear God’s vision and keep hearing it.

La Visión Crisis: ¿Qué vas hacer?

Entonces ustedes son los portadores de la visión de las células o de grupos pequeños para su iglesia. Si eres como la mayoría de los líderes, tu nivel de confianza acerca de la visión pasa por altos y bajos. Cuando la confianza esta arriba, es fácil proclamar la visión. Pero cuando está abajo, ¿cómo respondes? ¿Qué hace usted cuando su visión de la vida del grupo celular está en crisis? Permítanme sugerir unas cuantas cosas:

* Obtenga algún tiempo con Dios. Os animo a construir el programación mensual. No espere hasta que llegue la crisis para empezar a hacer esto. Regresa a la Biblia y ha ver lo que Dios te está diciendo. La dirección de Dios te puede sorprender.

* Lee un buen libro sobre la visión para los grupos celulares. Vuelve a leer un libro viejo que te inspiró al principio. Encuentra algo nuevo que podría revelar algo nuevo que Dios quiere mostrarte. No te limites a leer. Ora.

* Encuentra buenos blogs a seguir y lee regularmente. Por supuesto, esto es exactamente lo que estamos haciendo ahora. Otros incluyen  ver comentarios como:

Este es el punto más difícil: No te rindas en la visión. En los últimos quince años no me pude mantener al día con el gran número de iglesias que han saltado a la visión dentro y fuera del grupo celular/ visión de pequeño grupo. Es una visión a hacer, porque Dios te llama a la misma. Escucha la visión de Dios y sigue escuchándolo.

After leaving Egypt, the people of Israel made a stop at Mount Horeb to receive the commandments and laws of God. They stayed there for one year, even though God had brought them out to conquer the Promised Land. God had to say to them, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain” (Deuteronomy 1:6). Note that Mount Horeb is the Mount of God, but God had to say to them, “Leave my mount and go to the enemy.” In other words, God was sending them to battle; it was time to fight, to go out, and win in the process.

It’s nice to be in the presence of God, on God’s mountaintop. Although many battles are won in the presence of God, some have to be won on enemy territory. This is where we must ask: how can pastors receive the motivation and strength to move forward and conquer? Let me mention the following:

• We must not lose sight of the size of the vision. Like the people of Israel who refused to move on, we can sometimes become satisfied with a small vision. We forget to dream big, to count the stars as God did with Abraham, or to understand that the destination is the “land flowing with milk and honey.”
• We must have faith in the power of God to accomplish his purposes. The people of Israel were very incredulous. Even at the first hurdle of the Red Sea, they began to doubt God and were sure they were going to die. Yet, God showed himself strong and split the sea in two (Ex . 14:15).
• The experience of Israel in the desert was a model of personal care. When Jethro visited Moses and saw him sitting all day to resolve issues brought to him, he said: “What you are doing is not good. You and these people who come to you will only wear yourselves out. The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone “(Ex. 18: 17-18). Fatigue from overwork, disappointment, anxiety, frustration from inward turmoil can lead to fatigue and emotional burn-out. To prevent this from happening, you need to have someone to have a friend/mentor to talk with, time for vacation, and relaxation in general. You will also need to coach your cell leaders.

God wants us to move from our comfort zones and began to conquer in his name. To do so effectively, it is necessary to refuel your vision constantly, make sure you get enough physical and emotional rest, and make sure you properly care for your leaders.

Renovando Fuerzas para Avanzar

Luego de salir de Egipto, el pueblo de Israel hizo una parada en el Monte Horeb o Sinaí para recibir los mandamientos y leyes de Dios pero se quedaron en ese lugar por un año.

Dios los había sacado para conquistar la tierra prometida pero ellos se quedaron acampando en el monte hasta que Dios les habló diciendo: “Habéis estado bastante tiempo en este monte” (Dt. 1:6). Nótese que el monte Horeb es el monte de Dios; y lo que Dios les dijo es: Salgan ya de mi monte y vayan al territorio enemigo, Dios los estaba enviando a la batalla, porque era hora de batallar, de salir, de conquistar para luego empezar a poseer.

Es lindo estar en la presencia de Dios, en el monte de Dios, y si bien es cierto muchas batallas se ganan en la presencia de Dios, otras hay que ganarlas en el territorio enemigo. Es aquí dónde cabe preguntarnos: ¿de qué maneras puede obtener el pastor o líder la motivación y fortaleza para avanzar y conquistar? Permítanme mencionar lo siguiente:

En primer lugar, no hay que perder de vista la visión ni el tamaño de la visión. Como el pueblo de Israel nos conformamos y creemos que eso es todo lo que hay quedándonos cómodo. Nos olvidamos de soñar en grande, de contar las estrellas como lo hizo Dios con Abraham; o, de entender que el destino es la “tierra que fluye leche y miel”.

Por otro lado, hay que tener fe para ver cosas sorprendentes en el poder de Dios. El pueblo de Israel era muy incrédulo, ante el primer obstáculo del Mar Rojo comenzaron a dudar pensando que iban a morir; pero allí, entre el mar y el ejercito del Faraón, Dios lo invitó a marchar y el mar se abrió en dos (Ex. 14:15).

Finalmente, es importante el autocuidado y un modelo de cuidado. Cuando Jetro visitó a Moisés y vio que se sentaba todo el día para resolver los asuntos que traían a él, le dijo: “No está bien lo que haces. Desfallecerás del todo, tú, y también este pueblo que está contigo; porque el trabajo es demasiado pesado para ti; no podrás hacerlo tú solo”. (Ex. 18: 17-18). El cansancio por la sobrecarga de trabajo, la decepción, la ansiedad, la frustración por la sobrecarga emocional que recibe un líder le puede llevar a un agotamiento físico y/o emocional. Para que esto no ocurra es necesario tener alguien con quien hablar como amigo y mentor, tiempo para vacaciones y relajación en general; así como, un modelo para el cuidado de los líderes de las células.
Dios desea que nos movamos de la zona de comodidad y avancemos para conquistar, para hacerlo con eficacia es necesario reabastecernos constantemente: renovando la visión, aumentando la fe, cuidándonos física y emocional; y de igual manera cuidando a nuestros líderes.

Romans 12:10-11 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord.  Fervent: Gk, Zeo; Living fervor, fiery hot, full of burning zeal. It is the opposite of dignified, cold, and unemotional. In a Christian context it signifies a high spiritual temperature, inflamed by the Holy Spirit.

Personal coaching of the Senior/Lead Pastor and as many of his/her staff as can be involved is a tremendous asset to staying motivated in the Cell vision!  The accountability is needed and because coaching is frequent, there is not much time to get discouraged before the coach bring support and encouragement to the leader.  We have placed coaching as a high priority in our church’s budget for the last 8 years. Having Joel Comiskey as our coach has been wonderful, challenging and entirely supportive. Our journey in transitioning from program-based ministry to cell-based and all the way through our success of my handing the Lead Pastor role to a younger man has been accompanied by our cell coach.

A thoughtful study of God’s word has been a constant vision builder for me as the Senior Pastor.  Seeing all the times our friends in the Bible faced giants and giant odds (David and Jehoshaphat for example) has helped me understand that I am NEVER alone in my work.  Hearing our Savior say plainly, “I will never leave you or forsake you” makes my faith walk a solid path in troubled travels.  I have placed marks in the margins of my Bible every time I discover a passage that reflects the cell system at work (John 4:53, Mark 6:10, 14:3 & 16:14, Acts 2:6, 5:42, 12:12, 16:34 & 40, just to show a few), helps me notice the way God was working then and shows me how to work now.

Regular reading of books on the cell church has inspired me and brought revelation from the Holy Spirit as He breathed truth into my spirit-man.  Hearing another man/woman’s story challenges me to continue.  Obtaining hard facts of success in bringing the gospel to another part of the world tells me that I can reach my city too.  The Joel Comiskey Group blog offers a daily boost that is quick to read and offers insight from reliable and consistent leadership in cell ministry.  It is a must for me because it confronts me with truth and inspiration that keeps me from losing my focus.

Finally, we all need to know we are not traveling alone!  Meeting and making friends with other cell-based, cell-minded leaders is vital.  Visiting another cell church, meeting their leaders, seeing how they accomplish things like training leaders, constructing cell outlines, organizing their facilities, etc, can have a lasting impression and impact.  Attending cell seminars puts us in touch with like-minded leaders too.  Next month, JCG is holding its one-day conference in Richardson, Texas (just outside Dallas, Texas).  Input from Mario Vega and Joel Comiskey will instruct and inspire everyone attending.  I’ll be there checking in this year’s attendees and I hope you are one of them!!  Check the website for registering today: http://www.joelcomiskeygroup.com/conference/feb2012event.html

Fervientes en el Espíritu

Romanos 12:10-11 Amaos los unos a los otros con amor fraternal; en cuanto a honra, prefiriéndoos los unos a los otros. En lo que requiere diligencia, no perezosos; fervientes en espíritu, sirviendo al Señor. Ferviente: GK, Zeo, viviendo en fervor, calor ardiente, lleno de celo ardiente. Es lo opuesto a la dignidad, el frío y sin emociones. En un contexto cristiano significa una alta temperatura espiritual, encendido por el Espíritu Santo.

El Entrenamiento personal de el Pastor Principal, y como muchos de su personal, pueden estar involucrados, ¡es una gran ventaja para mantener la motivación en la visión de la célula! La contabilidad es necesaria porque el entrenamiento es frecuente, no hay mucho tiempo para desanimarse antes que el entrenador de apoyo y aliento para el líder. Hemos puesto el entrenamiento como una alta prioridad en el presupuesto de nuestra iglesia durante los últimos 8 años. Tener a Joel Comiskey como nuestro entrenador ha sido maravilloso, estimulante y de apoyo por completo. Nuestro viaje en la transición del ministerio basado en células y todo el camino a través de nuestro éxito hasta mi entrega de pastor principal de un hombre más joven que ha sido acompañada por nuestro entrenador celular.

Un estudio atento de la Palabra de Dios ha sido la visión constante para mí, como pastor principal. Ver todas las veces que nuestros amigos en la Biblia se enfrentan a los gigantes y las raras probabilidades (David y Josafat, por ejemplo) me han ayudado a comprender que nunca estoy solo en mi trabajo. Escuchando a nuestro Salvador que dice claramente: “Yo nunca te dejaré ni te abandonaré” hace que mi fe camine un camino sólido en sus viajes con tribulaciones. He puesto marcas en los márgenes de la Biblia cada vez que descubro un pasaje que refleja el sistema de células en el trabajo (Juan 4:53, Marcos 6:10, 14:03 y 16:14, Hechos 2:6, 05:42, 12:12, 16:34 y 40, sólo para mostrar unos pocos), me ayuda a notar la manera en que Dios estaba trabajando en aquel entonces y me muestra la forma de trabajar ahora.

La lectura regular de libros de la iglesia celular me han inspirado y traen la revelación del Espíritu Santo, el sopló la verdad a mi espíritu-hombre. El escuchar la historia de un hombre o mujer me desafía a continuar. También obteniendo hechos concretos de éxito en llevar el evangelio a otras partes del mundo me dice que puedo llegar a mi ciudad también. El Grupo de Joel Comiskey me ofrece un impulso diario que es rápido de leer y ofrece una visión de liderazgo confiable y consistente en el ministerio celular. Es un deber para mí porque me confronta con la verdad y la inspiración que me impide perder el enfoque.

Finalmente, ¡todos tenemos que saber que no viaja solo! La Reunión y hacer amigos con otras células, líderes con visión celular son vitales. Visitar otra iglesia celular, el cumplimiento de sus líderes, al ver cómo logran cosas como la capacitación de líderes, la construcción de esquemas de células, la organización de sus instalaciones, etc., puede tener una impresión duradera y de impacto. Asistir a seminarios de células que nos pone en contacto con semejantes líderes. El próximo mes, JCG esta celebrando una conferencia de un día en Richardson, Texas (a las afueras de Dallas, Texas). I’m sure you can remember a time when your cell vision was on a mountain top “high.” Perhaps Bible passages popped out at you about God’s Trinitarian nature, Jethro’s advice to Moses about caring for the people in groups of ten, or how the early church met from house to house and celebrated together. Perhaps you visited an exciting cell church and had an “aha” moment. You could see clearly into the future, and how you wanted to project your current ministry. Or perhaps you read a book that inspired you to change something in your current structure.

The problem is that we can’t stay on the mountain top. We all have to come down to the real world of unfulfilled expectations, human failings, and megaloads of data confronting us continually. So how do we sustain the cell vision over the long-haul. As you know, cell church ministry is a marathon, rather than a 50-yard dash. Here are some key ways to renew your vision:

• Bible reading. The Bible is chalked full of material to stimulate your cell vision. My new book, Biblical Foundations for Cell-Based Ministry (Nov 2012), has stimulated me to dig deeper and receive new passion for the biblical base for cell ministry.
• Resources (books, articles, blogs, etc.). Are you feeding your cell vision by reading cell resources? I’ve put together a list of “must read” books on cell ministry. How many have you read on the list? Do you have a plan to read them? They will help fuel your vision. The same is true with cell blogs, articles, small group resources, etc. I’m glad you’re reading this blog and hope you continue!
• Seminars, conferences, and network gatherings. Cell conferences offer information to inspire your vision but they also provide opportunities to interact with pastors and leaders who are on the same journey. Do you have plans to attend a seminar or conference in 2012? How about the JCG event in February in Dallas? I’m always impressed with pastors who organize themselves into networks after a seminar for the purpose of encouragement and strengthening their cell vision.
• Coaching. Having a personal coach is a great way to keep your vision strong and growing. A coach will hold you accountable, listen, encourage, offer resources, and suggest ways to improve. Some coaches charge a fee whole others do it for free. Our book, You Can Coach, looks at the different coaching options and how to coach (maybe God is calling you to coach someone else!). Along with the many free resources, we also offer fee-based coaching at JCG.
• Personal Experience. Sometimes the best way to renew your vision is to lead a cell group or become a member of a cell. Being in the battle will keep your vision focused. If you haven’t begun your cell journey, maybe you could ask a nearby pastor to allow you to attend one of their cells or pastoral team meetings.

Renovando la Visión Celular

Estoy seguro que puede recordar un momento en que su visión celular estaba bien “alta”, en la cima de la montaña. Tal vez resaltaron pasajes Bíblicos de la naturaleza trinitaria de Dios, el consejo de Jetro a Moisés fue de cuidar a las personas en grupos de diez, o cómo la iglesia primitiva se reunía en las casas y celebraban juntos. Tal vez visitó una iglesia celular emocionante y tuvo un “ajá” momento. Se podía ver claramente en el futuro, y cómo quería proyectar su ministerio actual. O tal vez leer un libro que le inspiró a cambiar algo en su estructura actual.

El problema es que no podemos permanecer en la cima de la montaña. Todos tenemos que bajar al mundo real con expectativas no cumplidas, debilidades humanas, y mega-carga de datos que nos enfrentamos continuamente. Entonces, ¿cómo sostenemos la visión de células durante un largo recorrido? Como usted sabe, el ministerio celular es una maratón y no una carrera de 50 yardas. Aquí hay algunas claves para renovar tu visión:

• La Lectura Bíblica. La Biblia está llena de material para estimular la visión celular. Mi nuevo libro, Fundamentos bíblicos para el ministerio basado en células (noviembre 2012), me ha estimulado para profundizar y recibir nueva pasión por la base bíblica para el ministerio celular.

• Recursos (libros, artículos, blogs, etc.) ¿Estas alimentando la visión celular con la lectura de los recursos celulares? He reunido una lista de “debe leer” libros sobre el ministerio celular. ¿Cuántos has leído en la lista? ¿Tiene un plan para leer? Esto te ayudarán a impulsar tu visión. Lo mismo ocurre con los blogs celulares, artículos, recursos en pequeños grupos, etc., me alegro de que estés leyendo este blog y esperamos que sigas!

• Los Seminarios, conferencias y reuniones de la red. Llamadas en conferencia ofrecen información para inspirar tu visión, pero también ofrecen oportunidades de interactuar con los pastores y líderes que están en el mismo camino. ¿Tienes planes para asistir a un seminario o una conferencia en el 2012? ¿Qué tal el caso de JCG en el mes de febrero en Dallas? Siempre estoy impresionado con los pastores que se organizan en redes después de un seminario con el propósito de fomentar y fortalecer su visión celular.

• El Entrenamiento. Tener un entrenador personal es una gran manera de mantener una visión fuerte y en crecimiento. El entrenador tendrá que rendir cuentas, escuchar, animar, ofrecer recursos, y sugerir formas de mejorar. Algunos entrenadores cobran una cuota completa y los demás lo hacen de forma gratuita. Nuestro libro, Usted Puede Entrenar, mira las diferentes opciones de entrenamiento y cómo entrenar (¡tal vez Dios te está llamando para entrenar a alguien más!). Junto con muchos de los recursos libres, también ofrecemos un entrenador con honorarios en JCG.

• La Experiencia Personal. A veces la mejor manera de renovar tu visión es la de dirigir un grupo celular o convertirse en un miembro celular. Estar en la batalla y mantener tu visión enfocada. Si usted no ha comenzado este viaje celular, tal vez podría pedir a un pastor cercano para que pueda asistir a una de sus células o reuniones de equipo pastoral.

We recently completed our last year’s evaluation of cell ministry. We had positive results in all aspects, but we didn’t reach all the goals we had set.

The whole church knows that the goals were not reached, especially those involved in the cell work. To disclose that some goals were not met, serves to reflect on what was not done or on what was done poorly.

Evaluations allow us to make mid-course corrections, to focus more, and to set new goals. But there has never been even the slightest indication that we should abandon the cell work or adopt a new strategy. On the contrary, each time we evaluate our cell ministry we are encouraged to press ahead. We resolve among ourselves to do an even better job –even in the midst of difficulties.

We can share limitations and tough evaluations without losing the inspiration to keep on persevering. There’s no reason to hide those areas that are less than deal. At the same time, we must never lose the model of the New Testament church.

Sinceridad y perseverancia

Recientemente terminamos nuestra evaluación del trabajo celular del año pasado. Tuvimos resultados positivos en todos los aspectos, pero no alcanzamos todas las metas que nos habíamos propuesto.

El no haber alcanzado las metas es algo conocido por toda la iglesia, sobre todo, por aquellos involucrados en el trabajo celular. El dar a conocer que algunas metas no fueron alcanzadas, sirve para reflexionar sobre lo que no se hizo o sobre lo que se hizo mal.

Las evaluaciones nos permiten corregir el rumbo, enfocarnos más y proponernos metas nuevas. Pero, nunca ha existido ni la mínima mención de que debamos abandonar el trabajo con células. Por el contrario, cada vez se reafirma mucho más la visión celular. En los peores momentos lo que existe es una resolución por hacer todavía un mejor trabajo.

Así, se comparten las limitaciones pero no se pierde la inspiración para seguir perseverando. No hay porque ocultar que las cosas no siempre son ideales, pero nunca se debe perder el modelo de la iglesia del Nuevo Testamento.

The vision for community, discipleship, evangelism, and changing the world through life in small groups (cell groups) cannot be based on the facts on the ground. We cannot base the vision for small-group based ministry on whether or not it is working. If we do, then we will be excited about it one month and wonder why we even tried it the next. Group life is about relationships and relationship ministry goes through ups and downs. If you allow the circumstances of those ups and downs to dictate our vision, then it’s very likely you will lose your passion for the vision so often that people will lose confidence in your leadership.

At the same time, there is reality. If all you do is promote the group vision and fail to deal with the on the ground realities that group leaders and members face, then you will sound more like the Wizard of Oz—all smoke and mirrors—than a shepherd sent by God to lead the flock. Promotion of the vision that does not deal with reality gets ignored.

Leaders must have the guts to have confidence in the vision that God has given them while at the same time have the humility to deal with the realities that are not lining up with the vision. Let me suggest a few things that can help you keep these to things in healthy tension.

1. Most leaders are better at one or the other. This is the reason we need to lead the cell group (small group) vision as teams. We need to have those who hold up the vision and keep that before all of the people. And we need those who see the realities on the ground and help people move into the vision.
2. Vent your frustrations to other leaders who can actually do something about the struggles. When you vent publicly, assuming that it’s just being transparent, you disempower those you lead.
3. Get away for extended times of prayer and fasting to hear God’s voice and direction. Many times we lose sight of the vision because we are mired in the daily demands of ministry.
4. Promote a vision that’s about life and not structures. In other words, don’t make the public vision primarily about abstract structures like cell-based ministry, “church of small groups” etc. And definitely don’t make the public vision about what you are not. Instead hold up the vision for being a people who living in sacrificial community and we do this in small group community. For being a people who grow in Christ, and we do this through relationships in our small groups. For being a people who leads our friends to Christ, and we do this through community.

When we talk about these aspects of the vision, you can be transparent about the successes and shortfalls. It helps people see where they need to improve, while at the same time celebrating the victories.

¿Es tu visión lo suficientemente transparente? ¿O demasiado?

La visión de la comunidad, el discipulado, evangelismo, y cambiar el mundo a través de la vida en pequeños grupos (grupos de células) no puede basarse en los hechos sobre el terreno. No podemos basar la visión para el ministerio de grupos pequeños en función de que si funciona o no. Si lo hacemos, estaremos entusiasmados un mes y preguntándonos por qué intentarlo el otro mes. La vida del grupo se basa en relaciones y el ministerio de relaciones pasa por altos y bajos. Si usted permite que las circunstancias de los altibajos dicten nuestra visión, entonces es muy probable que usted pierda su pasión por la visión tan a menudo y que la gente pierda confianza en su liderazgo.

Al mismo tiempo, hay realidad. Si todo lo que hacen es promover la visión del grupo y no para hacer frente a las realidades sobre el terreno en el que los líderes del grupo se enfrentan a los miembros, entonces sonará más como el Mago de Oz, todo humo y espejos-que un pastor enviado por Dios para conducir el rebaño. La Promoción de la visión que no se ocupa de la realidad cuando es ignorada.

Tenemos que tener aquellos que tienen la visión y mantenerla ante toda la gente. Y necesitamos aquellos que ven la realidad sobre el terreno y ayudan a las personas que se muevan en la visión.

2. Expresar sus frustraciones a otros líderes que realmente pueden hacer algo en el tiempo de prueba. Al ventilar públicamente, suponiendo que sólo se trata de ser transparente, restando poder a los que lideran.

3. Aléjese de tiempos prolongados de oración y ayuno para escuchar la voz de Dios y la dirección. Muchas veces perdemos de vista la visión, porque estamos sumidos en las exigencias cotidianas de su ministerio.

4. Promueve una visión acerca la vida y no las estructuras. En otras palabras, no hagas que la visión primaria sea abstracta de las estructuras como del ministerio basado en células “, la iglesia de grupos pequeños”, etc, y definitivamente no hagan la visión al público acerca de lo que no son. En lugar mantengamos la visión de ser un pueblo que vive en la comunidad con sacrificio y lo que hacemos en la comunidad a través de los pequeños grupos. Por ser un pueblo que crece en Cristo, y esto lo hacemos a través de relaciones en nuestros grupos pequeños. Por ser un pueblo que lleva a nuestros amigos a Cristo, y lo hacemos a través de la comunidad. Cuando hablamos de estos aspectos de la visión, podemos ser transparentes acerca de los éxitos y las carencias. Ayuda a la gente ver dónde necesitan mejorar, mientras que al mismo tiempo celebra las victorias.

Several times I have heard pastors say the following phrases:

• “God does not ask for numbers but quality.”
• “we are few but we are good”
• and others, urge their members to become a mega church and place their people under constant pressure by monitoring all statistics.

Faced with this reality, the following question arises: What is the right balance between quantity and quality?

To answer this question let me reflect on the ministry of the apostle Paul who wrote to the Corinthians: “… and besides all this, every day is about my anxiety for the church. Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who makes you stumble, and I am not worthy? “(2 Cor 11.28-29). In these verses we see a leader who feels a sincere concern for his people–the very ones he brought to the knowledge of the truth. The Apostle didn’t see these people as “just numbers” but those with whom he had created a relational bond that made him sincerely interested in their needs and struggles. This interest led the apostle to say that he “travailed in pain ” until Christ be formed in them (Gal. 4:19). He longed for his people to arrive at the “whole measure of the fullness of Christ” (Eph. 4: 13).

However, the apostle’s interest in people stirred him to “fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ” (Rom. 15:19). His dream to reach all the inhabitants of the empire stirred him to feel indebted to all of them (Rom.1:14). This passion stirred him to preach in their homes, synagogues, and even in the Areopagus in Athens.
Paul’s example is a model for the cell church pastor today: A leader who feels genuinely interested in the emotional and spiritual life of his people, but at the same time, a passion to fill all the land with the glory of God until one day people from every tongue and nation worship the Lamb of God.

A pastor with this ministerial life balance is a leader who understands that the most important thing is the formation of Christ in the life of each member which results in reaching the multitudes.

Dear Pastor, focus on the people beyond the statistics. Developing people who love God must be your passion, and then they will imitate your passion and vision. And as you do this, you will form a cell church that is balanced and will glorify God.

El Equilibrio entre la Cantidad y la Calidad

Varias veces he oído a pastores diciendo frases como las siguientes: “Dios no pide números sino calidad”. O, “somos pocos pero somos buenos”; y a otros, exhortando a sus miembros para llegar a ser una mega iglesia bajo una constante presión y supervisión mediante estadísticas. Frente a esta realidad me surge una pregunta: ¿Cuál es el correcto equilibrio entre cantidad y calidad?

Para responder a este cuestionamiento permítanme reflexionar en torno al ministerio del apóstol Pablo quien escribía a los Corintios: “… y además de todo esto, diariamente está sobre mi la ansiedad por la iglesia. ¿Quién enferma, y yo no enfermo? ¿A quién se le hace tropezar, y yo no me indigno?” (2 Co 11.28-29). En estas palabras vemos a un líder que siente un sincero interés por su gente, por aquellos a quienes él ha llevado al conocimiento de la verdad. Para el apóstol no eran simplemente números, sino personas con las cuales él creaba un vínculo relacional que le hacía estar sinceramente interesado en sus necesidades y luchas. Este interés del apóstol le llevó incluso a decir que sufría “dolores de parto” hasta que Cristo fuera formado en ellos (Gá. 4:19). Animándoles, además, a llegar “a la medida de la estatura de la plenitud de Cristo” (Ef. 4: 13).

No obstante, este interés en las personas, el apóstol Pablo tenía una pasión profunda: “llenarlo todo con el evangelio de Cristo” (Ro. 15:19. El soñaba con que todos los habitantes del imperio tuviesen un encuentro con Jesucristo pues se sentía deudor a todos ellos (Ro. 1:14); por eso predicaba en las casas, en las sinagogas y hasta en el Areópago de Atenas.

Este ejemplo del apóstol Pablo se constituye en un modelo para el pastor de la iglesia celular de hoy: Un líder que sienta verdadero interés por la vida emocional y espiritual de su gente; pero al mismo tiempo, una pasión por llenar toda la tierra de la gloria de Dios hasta que algún día multitudes de toda lengua y nación adoren al Cordero de Dios.

Un pastor con este equilibrio en su vida ministerial es un líder que entiende que los programas son un medio para un fin mucho más importante: la formación de Cristo en la vida de cada uno de los miembros a través del contacto con la gente, y desde allí, alcanzar a las multitudes.

Estimado pastor, enfócate en la gente más allá de las estadísticas. La gente que Dios ama debe ser tu pasión, luego ellos imitarán tu pasión y seguirán la visión. Es por ellos y a través de ellos que alcanzarás una iglesia celular equilibrada que dará gloria a Dios.

Leaders may display their “feet of clay” to their followers, but our followers should never see us “in the shower”.

People are fine with knowing their leaders are human and face difficulties just as they do, but they also need to see a confidence in God showing that the leader has not moved away from the vision received. I like the moment when Moses is at the edge of the Red Sea and crying out to God in Exodus 14. The people are filled with fear as Pharaoh’s army approaches and wishes to return to the old ways of Egypt while Moses is trying to hold it together and saying to them, “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord…” as he leads them into this new vision of freedom.

Here is how I see this occurring: Moses faces the people and tells them everything will be fine and reminds them of the vision even though he is also crying out to the Lord for help (feet of clay). Then he turns toward the Red Sea, looks up to God and says something like, “what is happening here, what am I supposed to do, where are YOU?” (total naked “in the shower” before God, but not exposing his shakiness to the people). Upon this, God gives the solution to the next step in fulfilling the vision, Moses comes out looking like a great leader and the people, even though aware of Moses’ clay-footed weakness, they are willing to follow him through the miraculous parting of the Red Sea.

You can be shaky in yourself, but don’t give the people your entire condition. Let God see your need, but hold the vision before the people as you let them know you struggle at times too. They will relate to you even more and willingly follow you as God provides your next step, miraculously!

Pies de barro

Los líderes pueden exhibir sus “pies de barro” a sus seguidores, pero nuestros seguidores nunca nos ven “en la ducha”.

La gente está bien con saber que sus líderes son humanos y se enfrentan a dificultades, pero también necesitan ver una confianza en Dios que muestra que el líder no se ha alejado de la visión recibida. Me gusta el momento en que Moisés está en el borde del Mar Rojo, y clamando a Dios en Éxodo 14. La gente se llenó de temor cuando se acerca el ejército de Faraón y desea regresar a las viejas costumbres de Egipto, mientras que Moisés está tratando de mantenerlos unidos y les dice: “Estad firmes y ved la salvación del Señor …”, como él los lleva a esta nueva visión de la libertad.

Así es como veo este suceso: Moisés se enfrenta a la gente y les dice que todo irá bien y les recuerda la visión a pesar de que también es clamar al Señor por ayuda (pies de barro). Luego se vuelve hacia el Mar Rojo, busca a Dios y dice algo como, “lo que está pasando aquí, ¿qué se supone que debo hacer?, ¿dónde estás?” (Desnudo por completo “en la ducha” delante de Dios, pero no expuesto a su inestabilidad con la gente). Ante esto, Dios le da la solución para el siguiente paso en el cumplimiento de la visión, Moisés viene convertido en un gran líder, y el pueblo estaba consciente de los pies de barro de Moisés y su debilidad, pero están dispuestos a seguirlo a través de la separación milagrosa del Mar Rojo.

Puedes ser inestable, pero no dar al pueblo toda tu condición. Deja que Dios vea tu necesidad, pero mantén la visión ante la gente así como usted les hace saber que luchas también. Ellos se referirán a ti aún más y te seguirán así como Dios provee el siguiente paso, milagrosamente!
